FC Buffalo came within minutes of Valley Division pole position before settling for a memorable 1-1 draw with leaders Fort Wayne FC on a night of history for the club Wednesday at Robert Rich Sr All-High Stadium.
Ander Castillo scored his 19th goal for the blue and gold, breaking a tie with Kendell McFayden for the most men’s goals in FC Buffalo history and giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead late in the game.
Fort Wayne would rally behind Castillo’s college teammate, Tiago Dias, taking a point from All-High and keeping hold of first place after a pair of draws with FCB.
FCB captain Max Kwitchoff took the top off the Fort Wayne defense with a long pass and Castillo showed nifty skill and composure in cutting the ball past FWFC keeper Aurie Briscoe.
The men’s record moves to 3-2-2, good for 11 points. That’s three points fewer than FWFC and Cleveland Force and two back of Toledo Villa. FCB face both Cleveland and Toledo once more this season.
The men go to Dayton on Tuesday before a huge doubleheader with the women on Saturday, June 29. Get tickets here.
