FC Buffalo’s women begin their two-game away stretch with a win at Mercyhurst University Saxon Stadium on Saturday evening as three different FCB players scored in a 3-1 victory over derby rivals Erie Commodores.
Carissima Cutrona scored the first of FCB’s three goals in the first half, followed by a debut goal by forward Izzy Schmidt and Skylar Cornell’s piledriver in stoppage time. Despite an Erie goal nearly halfway into the second half, Nikki Bartholomew’s squad sealed the game with a 3-1 scoreline.
Cutrona opened the score sheet as she was sent toward goal and touched the ball past the Erie keeper before converting on her chance from an acute angle in the 24th minute.

FCB got their second goal following a chaotic sequence inside the box, which resulted in the Wolves getting a penalty kick for a handball by an Erie defender.
Forward Morgan Kulniszewski stepped up for the kick, but Erie’s Rebecca Winslow predicted where she aimed, pulling off the save. Still, the rebound landed near Schmidt as she scored her first goal in the blue and gold in the 41st minute.
Cornell gave the Wolves the three-goal advantage to end the first half, as from outside the left side of the box, she curled the ball into the right bottom corner of the net with two minutes into added time.

Erie would pull one back as Jamie Seneca from inside the penalty would slot the ball into the bottom left corner of Brigid Mulholland’s net in the 65th minute.
Cornell’s and Cutrona’s goals from today have them as FCB’s joint top scorers with three goals into the season.
The women’s record moves to 3-1-0, good for nine points in the UWS Eastern Conference table.
