For 82 minutes, FC Buffalo did everything but score a goal. That all stopped with one magnificent run.
Wearing the captain’s armband and orchestrating an unorthodox line-up, Bobby Ross (Grand Island, N.Y. // SUNY Brockport) saved his best feat for offense, seizing a clearance at midfielder and bullying his way through several Zanesville Athletic (1-1-10) defenders before firing home an unstoppably hard shot to give the Wolves a 1-0 road win in their penultimate regular season match.
Though FC Buffalo (8-0-3) held possession for the majority of the game’s beginning moments, it was Zanesville Ahletic who threatened to break zeroes on a conniving move through three defenders ended with ZAFC forward Anthony Bahadur on the ground and the referee pointing to the spot.
FCB keeper Andrew Coughlin rose to the occasion, however, stopping the initial offering and making the rebound option nothing more than his green keeper’s shirt.
The chippy affair meant yellow cards for both Ryan and Chris Walter, though most of the fouls came against Zanesville as they dealt with an angry effort from midfielders Ben Ramin, Anthony Rozzano, Jeff Thomas and Ryan Walter.
FCB finishes its regular season with a 1 p.m. Sunday “Family Day” hosting of No. 1 in the nation Detroit City FC before a July 13 first round playoff match against the Erie Admirals in the Motor City.
