FC Buffalo finished off a disappointing season in style, with a 5-1 win over the visiting Michigan Stars at Canisius College’s Demske Sports Complex on Sunday night.
Sam DeMello (St. Lawrence University) led the Wolves with three goals and an assist in the win, while Brian Knapp (University at Buffalo) and Ian Mort (SUNY Geneseo) also tallied for FCB. Russell Cicerone (University at Buffalo) recorded two assists, while Marcus Hanson (University at Buffalo) and Kendell McFayden (Medaille College) both had helpers as well.
Cicerone’s 8-goal, 6-assist season works out to single-season bests in both categories for the Wolves, who’ve finished their fifth season.
FC Buffalo’s 25 goals are the third-highest total in the Great Lakes Conference.
DeMello’s first goal was the second time the Wolves scored in the first minute of a home match this season. Mort followed it up with an 18th minute tap-in before Knapp made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute with a low drive past Michigan keeper Kassam Bazzi.
DeMello finished off the scoring with a low shot in the 45th minute and a breakaway tally in the 72nd. He was named the Rich Products FCB Man of the Match for his efforts.
The Wolves finish the year with a 5W-1D-8L record.
