FC Buffalo kicked off training for the 2017 NPSL season on Monday, and manager Frank Butcher has added three more players to the roster.
Akean Shackleford (Savannah La Mar, Jamaica / Indian Hills Community College) and Marco Trivellato (Padua, Italy / Canisius College) will debut and Gary Boughton (Lancaster, N.Y. / Medaille College) will “re-debut” for FCB this summer.
Shackleford, 20, scored 22 goals and five assists as a freshman striker at IHCC, earning NJCAA All-American 2nd Team status in his first year in Iowa. A Jamaica U-17 national pool player, Shackleford comes from the same town as former FC Buffalo striker Asani Samuels.
Boughton last played for FCB in 2012, scoring two goals in 10 matches as a midfielder after coming home from then-USL PRO side FC New York. When Boughton finished his college career at Medaille, his 82 assists were a Division III record.
Now the head women’s soccer coach at Erie Community College, Boughton spent last season with the Rochester River DogZ following several professional seasons in indoor soccer.
Trivellato comes to FCB from Dermot McGrane’s Canisius College program, where he started all 19 games during his first year in Buffalo. He posted eight wins and six shutouts for the Golden Griffins after several seasons with Italian clubs AC Campodarsego, AC Este, FBC Derthona, AC Belluno, and AS Cittadella
FC Buffalo opens its 2017 NPSL season on Saturday, May 20, at Robert Rich Sr. All-High Stadium against Dayton Dynamo. Single game tickets are available here.
