AKRON, OH- FC Buffalo picked up a second away win of the season when it defeated Akron City FC 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at John Cistone Field on the campus of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.
Ander Castillo (Bilbao, Spain / Medaille College) scored the lone goal for the Blitzers, who improved to 3W-1D-3L on the season. Castillo outmuscled a defender to a long ball from Ashton Jell (Lancaster, N.Y. / Duquesne University), breaking through in the 72nd minute with a shot to the right side of the goal that beat Goalkeeper Cameron Victor.
Bryce Tramuta (Jeanette, Pennsylvania / Canisius College) registered the clean sheet, his club-best sixth in an FC Buffalo jersey. The Canisius alum made a crucial save from a set piece in the first half.
A scoreless first half was marked by physical play and the exchange of dangerous chances but the Blitzers made a change in attack when it brought on Castillo on in the 56th minute. The Spaniard helped to open up the attack for FC Buffalo, registering multiple dangerous runs as a super sub.
Tramuta’s clean sheet was aided by a strong performance by the Blitzers’ defense, which kept Akron City from generating dangerous chances from open play. The backline of the Blitzers produced a suffocating final 18 minutes following Castillo’s tally, conceding only two corner kicks that were easily cleared despite the all-out attack from the home side.
This was the third match between FC Buffalo and Akron City since May 27, with the Blitzers taking seven of a possible nine points from the expansion team.
The FC Buffalo men will be back in action on June 17th, traveling to Ohio again, this time to face Cleveland SC. The Blitzers will return to Dobson Field on July 8th against Erie Commodores SC. Presale tickets are available online.
