FC Buffalo’s women claimed the 2024 UWS Iron Division crown following a 2-2 draw with Steel City FC at Robert Rich All-High Stadium on Sunday.
Skylar Cornell had a goal and an assist including a stoppage-time equalizer from the spot after Eileen Solomon won a late penalty, while Morgan Kulniszewski also scored for the Wolves.
As in their last contest, Steel City scored the first goal of the match as Brianna Ross powered a shot into Brigid Mulholland’s right near post to give her team the 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.
But the Wolves responded within two minutes as a pin-perfect corner kick from Skylar Cornell arrived for Kulniszewski, who leapt in the air to perfectly volley the ball into the top right of the net.
Kulniszewski scored her second goal of the season, while Cornell picked up her second assist of the season.

In the second half, FCB once again counted on Mulholland to save them from trouble as she pulled three consecutive saves inside the box to keep the score 1-1 in the 69th minute.

Despite holding on from the quick and dangerous attacks by Steel City, the Wolves would concede late in the 83rd minute. A precise through ball from Kaityln Killinger landed to Emily Cooper, who ran in behind the defense to slip the ball into the net for the 2-1 lead.
Miraculously, the Wolves got a late penalty kick as Eileen Solomon bulldozed her way into the box, which resulted in her being fouled.
Cornell kept her composure to score her fifth goal of the season, giving her team the crucial 2-2 draw in the 90th minute. This season, she is now the current top scorer with the blue and gold.
The draw gives Nikki Bartholomew’s squad a final record of 6-1-1 in the 2024 UWS Iron Division following Friday’s 3-1 home win over Flower City.
FC Buffalo’s men’s team continues toward a second-place finish in the Valley Division table as they venture to Ohio for a rematch with Toledo Villa. Kickoff begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
