FC Buffalo extended its unbeaten run to three games, posting a rain-soaked 4-2 win over the Rochester Lancers at Marina Auto Stadium on Sunday.
Man of the Match midfielder Sammy Wasson (Clarence, N.Y. / Buffalo State College) had a goal and an assist, and Bayley Winkel, Keane McIvor, and Akean Shackleford also scored in the win. Steve Casey picked up the W between the sticks, and Brett Stern posted an assist.
Wasson opened the scoring with a 19th minute takeaway, dribble, and drive past his ex-teammates in Rochester.
Wasson turned provider to make it 2-1 after the Lancers equalized just after the break.
The Buff State man took a throw-in from Austin Stout, then dribbled into space before lifting the lid on the Lancers defense with a pinpoint pass to Bayley Winkel (Whitby, Ontario / Robert Morris University).
The captain did the rest.
The Wolves made it 3-1 via a penalty kick.
Keane McIvor (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago / Robert Morris University) raced onto a ball headed for the end line and was bodied off it by Rochester goalkeeper Will Banahene.
Despite a player tying his shoe near the spot and a Lancers goalkeeper change forcing him to wait, McIvor coolly slotted his first FCB goal.
Rochester pulled one back, and sent its keeper into the 18 for a corner kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
FCB dealt with the danger, with Stern sending a clearance onto the path of Jamaican striker Shackleford. He was not caught.
FCB’s next home match comes Friday, June 15 against Greater Binghamton. Admission is $8 at the door, $7 presale, or discounted deeper as part of our season ticket packages.
