Murphy adds four, still evaluating

FC Buffalo head coach Brendan Murphy has added four more players to the fold for 2013 as he continues to evaluate two try-outs and a weekend try-out match against the Empire United Academy.

Peter Marlette, Ian Mort, Alex Stephan and John Taggart all committed to the club after receiving offers from Murphy this past week.

Marlette is back in Western New York after plying his trade professionally in Australia in the Summer of 2012. An export to the Woden Valley FC, read about his impact in the Canberra Times here. Marlette attended Trinity College and played for FC Buffalo predecessor, Buffalo City FC, during 2009.

Peter Marlette has great feet and is a mature, heady player who will bring a nice change of pace to our attack,” Murphy said.

Rochester, N.Y. native Mort played his college ball at SUNY Geneseo, where he was a net assassin, striking 25 times and contributing 10 assists in 62 games (32 starts). He scored 19 times in the 32 games of his junior and senior seasons.

Ian Mort is a very versatile player who can play up top as a target striker and come back into the midfield,” Murphy said. “He has a great understanding of the game, knows the game and will bring a lot of depth and firepower to our team.”
Geneseo is also the college home for Alexander Stephan, a four-year starter from Clarence, N.Y.
Alex Stephan is a hard nosed, hard working player who is very crafty with the ball,” said Murphy. “His work rate and technical ability will help us out greatly in the midfield.”
Taggart comes from the perennial power Medaille College, where he excelled after a spell at Buffalo State under Coach Murphy. Taggart went to Tonawanda High School. He contributed five goals in his senior season as Medaille went to the NCAA Tournament under Dan Krzyzanowicz.
John Taggart really performed well at both tryouts,” Murphy said. “He has a goal scorer’s instinct and gets himself into dangerous positions on a regular basis. He scored at least 8 goals over the course of the two tryouts.”
Murphy continues discussions with area players and coaches in search of the best talent in the area. Expect more commits in the coming weeks.
