FC Buffalo veteran Brian Paredes became the eighth player to participate in a National Premier Soccer League postseason event, representing the Midwest Conference in the 2018 NPSL Player Showcase earlier this month in Orlando, Florida.

Paredes, a senior captain and LIU Brooklyn, spent two seasons on the FCB roster, playing every position except goalkeeper and forward. He ended up with 11 appearances after an injury shortened his 2017 season.

The Midwest team won its semifinal match in penalty kicks before losing the final to the West, also in penalty kicks. Players were also treated to a speech from former USMNT striker Eddie Johnson, and a video greeting from Freddy Adu.

Here’s what Brian had to say about the event:

“It was very well-organized. Both coaches clearly proposed their style of play to us. Training on the first day went well. A couple of kids knew each other but I didn’t know anyone, however I managed to get comfortable with my whole team.

“Game day was a bit tough. I wasn’t comfortable with the field conditions because I wasn’t used to grass after a college season on turf. The team had a couple of chances but we didn’t move the ball as much as I would’ve liked. Although we tied 0-0 against the South, we deserved to win and we did.

“Championship match was very tough. West region outplayed us. I didn’t see much of the ball through out the game because the West pressured really well. Defensively, I was a big presence. Overall, it was a great experience.”

Plenty of scouts were on hand to see Brian and his teammates.
