The pack is up to 10 players committed to the summer of 2014, as FC Buffalo head coach Brendan Murphy added two returnees and two new faces to the Wolves’ pursuit of the NPSL title.

Tough stalwart back Jake Rinow and reigning team MVP Ian Mort are joined by versatile UB sophomore Marcus Hanson and English forward Luke Elston in today’s additions.

Rinow (Lancaster, N.Y. // Cornell University) returns for his fourth season as a defender with the club after captaining the Cornell Big Red as a senior, finishing his college career with 49 appearances, three goals and four assists.

“Jake is a uniquely talented player with top quality technical skill and a wealth of experience playing in the NPSL,” Murphy said. “He will be a solid presence in the back for us again this year.”

Along with Rinow, Mort was a leader for FCB in 2013. In his first season in Buffalo, Mort (Rochester, N.Y. // SUNY Geneseo) scored five goals and added an assist in a season that earned him the club’s Most Valuable Player, Best Offensive Player and Supporter’s Choice awards.

“Ian is a dynamic offensive threat as well as a physical defensive enforcer all over the field,” Murphy said. “He is a versatile player who can play at a high level in a number of spots.”

Murphy added a third player from UB coach Stu Riddle’s team with the commitment of explosive player Marcus Hanson (Mississauga, Canada // University at Buffalo). Hanson alternated between back and attacker for the Bulls, scoring twice and adding two assists as a sophomore in 2013. He also represented St. Kitts and Nevis in qualification for the FIFA U-20 World Cup during 2012.

“Marcus is a big athletic player who can play in the back, up top or as a winger,” Murphy said. “He will be a very useful addition to the roster this season.”

Finally, the Wolves added a prolific English scorer. Luke Elston (Somerset, England // Nazareth College) scored 21 goals over four years in Rochester, netting nine times in his junior year (2012). He added 7 assists and 139 shots over 66 games for the Golden Flyers.

“Luke has had a great career at Nazareth and has shown that he can score goals at a high rate,” Murphy said. “I think he will be able to make the transition to the NPSL very nicely.”
